"Message Clear" by Edwin Morgan

I dislike most "modern" poetry, but this one is worth the effort it takes to understand what the poet is attempting.

This entry is unusual in that instead of giving you the poem here, I am giving you links to .pdf files instead.

The reason for this is that the shape of the poem is critical to its appreciation and the .pdf file allows me to guarantee that you will view it in a non-proportional font... one in which all of the letters occupy the same amount of space... like an old fashioned typewriter.

File 1: The poem itself. "Message Clear"

File 2: The poem with the spaces removed so that the words are formed. "Message Clearer"

File 3: The poem is given at least partial explication. "Notes on Message Clear"
